Natural Approach to Deodorant
Ever wonder what’s in your deodorant or anti-perspirant? I have to admit that up until a few months ago I was an avid user of Secret with the fruity and floral scents. I would swipe it on everyday unaware of what was in it. For years my mom has told me not to use it but I would always shrug it off and continue using it because it seemed to get the job down. However, lately I have been more conscious of the products I use and therefore discovered that my favorite deodorant was packed full of potentially harmful chemicals that could lead to possible health problems.
I am a dedicated reader to Miranda Kerr’s blog in which she and many health professionals and friends/family contribute posts regarding everything from nutrition and beauty advice to fashion and eco-friendly practices. Renee Leonard-Stainton, a qualified Naturopath, Medical Herbalist and Nutritionist recently blogged about deodorant and the chemicals in many deodorants that could negatively impact your health. I found the article informative and eye-opening. The post contains great information about how the body naturally produces sweat and that anti-perspirants stop the natural process leading to build up of toxins within the body. Renee also discusses the harmful ingredients found in many popular deodorants and anti-perspirants in detail and how to find deodorants with natural ingredients that will keep you fresh without altering the natural processes that occur in sweat production. I will never go back to using my old deodorant, instead I will take a more natural approach to smelling lovely!
